My Cafe - Civic, Canberra

While surrounded by a myriad of other cafes in the area I was drawn to the name. Couldn't really be for anyone else now could it? Outside was better heated than inside but I didn't want to deny the public a four-seat table at my expense. Cosy, close yet relatively private, I sat at a two-seat table nearest the doorway. Magnificent views of the cheesecakes and quiches, I settled in for the feast.

Top of the menu! My Cafe's big breakfast! Hmm .... obviously knew I was coming. Seated no more than two minutes when my order was taken. Two minutes after that, the latte arrived. Things are all in order here. Oh, and I didn't have to ask for water and it arrived! Simple things...

Now, I have to be fussy here for it's not just about me, but the latte, despite being a little less generous with the milk and otherwise perfect, was in a glass. No handle! Beautifully hot, great taste, but something else that makes me wait! Yes I suffered through the burning fingers to enjoy the coffee. Never mind, here comes the mountain to Mohammed.

I truly believe My Cafe is singlehandedly upholding the Pork industry! Bacon, bacon, and bacon. In my dizzy excitement over porcine indulgence, I almost overlooked the small serving of mushrooms and had an instant sense of balance in the world. However, as I ripped into the four wonderful slices of smoked salmon and the copious amount of bacon, lo and behold! More mushrooms. Deceit has never had such a good outcome!

The tomato was a bonus today as it was more fresh than fried and, shock-horror, it went first. And while the scrambled eggs were not chosen by me, I am sure that if there was two eggs in the mix, they were from the emu clan of gigantic birds!

Really, the only items of dissapointment were the lack of freshly squeezed orange juice and the sausages, but you all know my view of snags.

Here at My Cafe, big is definately big. I would come here again for the bacon alone. Nestled in the cafe strip in civic it is indeed a big find in a little restaurant.
